Message from YOSHIKI about AK100 Project
Formed "X" in 1982. Their unique and original visuals combined with their beautiful and emotional music established "visual-kei", a new music genre becoming a social phenomenon and setting a great number of records and legends.
Before X's major debut he established his own label "EXTASY RECORDS" in 1986.
In 1993 they transferred to Warner Music's "Atlantic Label" and changed the band's name to
"X JAPAN ". X JAPAN was the first Japanese band to perform concerts at Tokyo Dome for 3 days in row (with more than 50,000 fans in one concert). They are famous for breaking records and common sense in the Japanese music scene.
YOSHIKI who is in charge of writing lyrics, composing and producing, has widened his scope by producing the main theme song of a TV program, movie music direction and collaborating with other artists on a parallel with X JAPAN.
He collaborated with ROGER TAILOR, the drummer of "QUEEN" and appeared on a tribute album for "KISS".
X JAPAN supported Ralf Schumacher, a top F1 driver as a main sponsor of his racing team when he won the Formula Nippon championship in 1996.
Classical music is an essential part of YOSHIKI's music. The London Philharmonic Orchestra performed in "YOSHIKI presents ETERNAL MELODY",his original classic album, collaborating with GEORGE MARTIN, a producer of the BEATLES.It was released in 1993 and sold more than 300,000 copies and was one of the best selling classic albums in Japan.
X JAPAN broke up at the end of 1997. YOSHIKI left the music business because of the sudden death of his band member, but started his music career again with "Anniversary", a song to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the emperor's ascension to the throne in Nov. 1999.
It was performed with a 77-piece orchestra in front of 15,000 people, including government officials, athletes and so on. It was broadcast by the major Japanese TV stations and he received a certificate of appreciation from the Minister of Education for contributing to Japanese culture and society in the year 2000.
And then he was offered to produce the main
official song for the "Aichi Expo" by
the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
in 2005.
He composed and wrote lyrics for the main theme tune "CATACOMBS", a Hollywood movie which was produced by the team of the movie "SAW" in Oct. 2007 and was recognized by not only his fans but also people from the film industry, and the new tune of X JAPAN "I.V." was chosen as the worldwide main theme song for "SAW4", the latest movie and one of the biggest box-office hits of the "SAW" series.
Oct.22 the music video for "I.V." was shot in public at the Tokyo Aqua City Odaiba and he announced a reunited performance of X JAPAN. More than 10,000 fans staying there let out a whoop of joy.
